months of training
Participants who practiced contrast detection with Gabor targets improved on several near-vision measures, including reading speed, while the eye's optics did not change. The authors interpreted the gains as perceptual, not optical.
Why we say inspired, not proven
- The study was small, participants were not randomly assigned, and only three people formed the no-practice control group.
- The protocol was intensive, not a few minutes for a few days.
- It tested a laboratory protocol, not Get Visionary. The app itself has not been clinically tested.
